Free Education Speaker Series

The Texas Mid-Coast Birding Festival proudly presents the Education Speaker Series, an engaging and informative session that is completely free and accessible to everyone in the community. No advance registration is necessary. Anyone interested in expanding their knowledge about birding can simply walk in and participate. We are honored to bring you an enriching experience filled with fascinating presentations that celebrate the wonders of avian life!

Join Virginia Rose as she shares her inspiring mission to reveal the wonders of birdwatching for those with mobility challenges. Hear her personal story of discovering new possibilities and experiencing the joy that comes from connecting with nature through birding.

Join Alexis Baldera and Tim Forrester from Audubon Texas for a summary of Audubon’s work on the Central Texas coast. We will share the history of our colonial waterbird program and our work at Chester Island. We will also provide updates from our field work and how our new beach-nesting bird program is protecting birds in and around Matagorda Bay.

Beginning Birding: Basics of Birding- New to birdwatching? Brent Ortego will cover the essential basics of birding, including identification techniques, equipment recommendations, and ethical birding practices. Participants will gain the confidence to embark on their birding journeys, equipped with the knowledge to observe and appreciate the beauty of avian life. This session will also guide participants through various tools and platforms available for birdwatching enthusiasts within E-bird and Merlin.
