Birdability with Virginia Rose
Virginia Rose will lead an inspiring and informative talk on Birdability, while also serving as a guide, bringing both lived experience and deep passion to her work. Virginia (she/her) became a wheelchair user at age 14 after a horseback riding accident resulted in a spinal cord injury. Seventeen years ago, she discovered birding and, through it, found a profound connection to nature that helped her discover her best self. Since then, she has become a dedicated advocate for accessible birding, leading inclusive outings with Travis Audubon and guiding annually at the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival.
A retired high school English teacher, Virginia is deeply committed to sharing the joy, empowerment, and sense of community she found through birding with others who face mobility challenges. Her work centers on ensuring that nature and birding are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all. Through her Birdability-focused talk and guided experiences, Virginia offers both practical insight and heartfelt encouragement, showing how nature can be a place of belonging, healing, and connection for everyone.

Dinner & Guest Speaker
We invite you to an unforgettable evening at the Grand Supper of the Texas Mid-Coast Birding Festival on Saturday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. This year, we are excited to welcome Tiffany Kersten. Tiffany spent 2021 traveling, birding, and gifting personal safety alarms to women birders she met on the trails along the way during her Lower 48 States Big Year. In 2022, she founded Nature Ninja Birding Tours, offering customized private tours in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
Join us for a remarkable opportunity to connect with fellow birding enthusiasts, savor a delectable meal, and gain insights from one of the foremost voices in the field. Don’t miss this chance to be inspired and celebrate our shared passion for birds and nature.
Mark your calendars and prepare for an evening filled with inspiration and camaraderie at the Grand Supper!
